Gunter Wilhelm Grass was born in Free City of Danzig, now Gdanst, Poland, on 16 October 1927. He was a German novelist, poet, playwright, illustrator, graphic artist and recipient of the 1999 Nobel Prize in Literature. Grass was a fan of Bundesliga Club SC Freiburg.
